Ingrid Leah arrives

Thursday 14th May

The day finally arrives, well, I guess the night before things finally started - there was no rushing this little girl - she'd been told she was due on the 13th, so she decided she'll start to make herself known then.   The last 6 wks of my pregnancy went very slowly. I'd never been this pregnant and I found it very anxious - and particularly tiring with 2 active toddlers.

We made the call at last to Carol and Ian to start heading down, and they arrived around half-past midnight Thursday morning.  I had the best night's sleep I'd had in two weeks - probably in the knowledge things were finally happening.  When I woke in the morning, I felt disappointed and a little foolish that I'd called them down prematurely, as the contractions remained mild, and once every twenty minutes.   By the time the obstetrician appt arrived at 2.15pm, contractions were more like every two minutes, so we took along the hospital bags.  The midwife was wondering why my blood pressure was a little high and got quite excited to hear that I was having contractions.  We got taken into the labour ward and I entered management mode - all the instructions were provided for Kurt, and fortunately Ingrid followed directions well.

Within 4 hours and ten minutes, Ingrid had arrived, with just some assistance from a tens machine, a little happy gas, and a crushed daddy.   Amy had herself and the delivery crew in hysterics with her regular head counts to prove she wasn't overdosing on the nitrous.

Ingrid's arrival was signalled by many cheers, and a very happy Amy who couldn't believe she'd done it, exactly how she wanted, and so quickly.  Ingrid caught on to the feeding thing immediately, and didn't have to leave mummy's sight at all.  A bit of a contrast to Elke and Gabriella's traumatic early arrival.

Ingrid Leah was 3.4kgs and 47cm and we're such proud parents of a beautiful little girl!!!

Kurt was an incredible support! He remained calm and was right there with me for the whole thing - helping me focus and remember what I wanted to achieve. My VBAC was such a positive experience.
